Recorder Karate
Have you seen a 4th or 5th grade student with different colors of yarn decorating their recorder? These students have earned "karate belts" by learning to play songs of increasing difficulty on their recorder. When a student finally earns their "black belt" they are challenged to add beads for each new song played with correct notes and rhythm.

Second Nine Weeks Music Learning
During the second nine weeks of school we will be learning how to read, write and create our own music in the Intermediate Grades. We will learn about texture in music by singing rounds, adding countermelodies to songs, and playing our recorders and Orff instruments. Our Primary Grades will focus on identifying long and short sounds, high and low sounds and learning about how melodies move. Ask your Kindergarten and First grade students how we used Hula Hoops to sort out instruments that make short and long sounds.
FOURTH GRADE FIELD TRIP
On Monday, Dec. 5th, all of our fourth grade students will be attending a Winter Concert presented by the Imperial Symphony Orchestra at the Lakeland Center. This concert is free to our students and is sponsored by businesses within our community. Field trip permission forms were sent home this week (11/7). Be sure to sign the form and return it to your child's teacher. This is a special opportunity for our students.
